In contrast to the intuitively accepted view, data indicate that enrollment swings in chemical engineering do not correlate with fluctuations in the economy. An alternate mechanism to explain the enrollment swings is hypothesized and modeled. The simulation mimics the behavior of national data and data from 30 individual schools, and provides circumstantial support for the mechanism.
The mechanism suggests that chemical engineering enrollment cycling is due to students' reaction to enrollment cycling, and that there are cures. Many students at minority-serving institutions are underexposed to Internet resources such as the human genome project, PubMed, NCBI databases, and other Web-based technologies because of a lack of financial resources. To change this, we designed and implemented a new bioinformatics component to supplement the undergraduate Genetics course at Clark Atlanta University. During the first week of the semester, students were assigned the Felder-Soloman's Index of Learning Styles Inventory. The overwhelming majority of students were visual (82.1%) and sequential (75.0%) learners. Furthermore, pre- and postcourse surveys were administered during the first and the last week of the course to assess learning, confidence level, and mental activity.
These indicated students increased the number of hours spent using computers and doing homework. Students reported confidence in using computers to study genetics increased, enabling them to better visualize and understand genetics. Furthermore, students were more mentally engaged in a more social learning environment. Although the students appreciated the value of the bioinformatics component, they reported the additional work load was substantial enough to receive additional course credit. 3Of the 21 hours shown as University Core Curriculum electives, 3 must be from creative arts, 3 from social and behavioral sciences , 3 from language, philosophy and culture , 6 from American history and 6 from government/political science.

Admissions at the Prairie View A&M University are slightly selective with an acceptance rate between 70% to 80%. I wanted to ask for advice on ChE at Prairie View A&M. Most recently I have been attending Lone Star College doing prereqs in hopes to transfer to UH for Geophysics. After surfing various forums and speaking to career counselors I have crossed this major off of my list considering the low prospects of being hired with only a BS degree in Geophysics. A second reason I am rushing to get into a Uni is because I am using VA benefits to pay for school.
The benefit I am using is not the traditional GI Bill and requires a counselor to extend my benefits which will soon run out for me unless I am accepted to a Uni. Students pursuing degrees in biological and agricultural engineering should refer to the specific curriculum for this major. It is recognized that many students will change the sequence and number of courses taken in any semester. Deviations from the prescribed course sequence, however, should be made with care to ensure that prerequisites for all courses are met. In 1945, the name of the institution was changed from Prairie View Normal and Industrial College to Prairie View University, and the school was authorized to offer, "as need arises," all courses offered at the University of Texas. Prairie View A&M University is one of the most affordable schools in Texas; everyone pays $14,928 per year for tuition. Rice University is considerably more expensive, as tuition costs $19,130 per semester. I have done only a few Engineering classes but was wondering how much Chemistry a ChE actually deals with? I have read/heard after completing O-Chems there really is not much Chemistry that is used academically or in the work setting.
What kind of research projects should I look to get involved in while doing undergraduate courses? Out of those prospects what is the expected pay for a entry level ChE after graduation? Obviously most want to go into O&G as I would but what are the chances of that happening? Should I finish the BS and transition right into a MS program or get some experience under my belt first?
Are there any certifications I should be looking at to give me more of a competitive edge? Some of these questions can be looked up via salary.com or payscale.com but I think those are pretty inaccurate considering I know people in different fields that agreed when comparing their own salaries. So I would like honest answers from people in the work force currently. Also I will be in my late 30's when completing this degree, does this bring any problems with being hired because of my age? I have more questions I would like to ask but I have had some people tell me I am a little long winded when I asked info on forums so I will cut this off here.
